I couldn't find anything by Googling but you could visit the shop in the
covered market which has a whole range of amber stuff. They should have
knowledge of such shops.

Thanks Richard, I'd have put money on you coming up with a good suggestion.
I'll give it a try. I asked in Tiger Lily the other day but they had none,
pity I didn't think of the Covered Market.

Well, there was no point in mentioning the place that 'used to be' on
the High street - damn! I used to buy the silver wire for home-build
synthesizers from them.

If you don't mind a trip to Witney (see address at bottom of page);

Good luck!

Yep, we sell a whole range of haematite jewellery at a shop in Oxon:

www.pula-uk.co.uk

I've actually got a special display in the window at the moment. Most of
the haematite I get from Kenya but I've also got haematite/malachite from S
Africa (probably originally from Kenya). We've got rings, bracelets and
necklaces. Come and have a look around.

Thanks to you and Richard, I now have plenty of suggestions to pass to my
son on whose behalf I asked the original question.
Doesn't this just show how useful this newsgroup can be ? and this just
after a thread discussing the lack of postings lately.

Just keep it select! You are wearing a suit and tie aren't you ? ;-)

It seems like a very odd coincidence to me. I've been using the newgroups
since about 1989 (when they only numbered a few hundred) and they can be so
dire, especially these local ones. I've gone for years hardly returning to
NGs at all then picking up again many years on and I rarely post. I haven't
checked this one for more than a year and I'm not really sure why I did this
time - probably idle boredom. There can't be many people in Oxon who have
an interest in haematite so it was odd that the enquiry appeared when it
did. I think Richard is right - so much depends on the people using the
group. It reminds me of the heady days of Citizen Band Radio which seemed
to thrive until the local skin-head covens discovered it and then used it to
intimidate OAPs. I've seen this NG deteriorate into the most appalling
series of threats interleaved with nothing but spam .

Ahem, 'In My Day' (DOS, BBSs and RAID windows) we felt we had to read
the Usenet Guidelines before lurking for many weeks but I think the
advent of cover disks that come with the computer magazines are to blame
for this 'f*ck you, I don't care' attitude. All the ISPs should be
tougher on potential customers reading the guidelines.

That said, I've brought some nice biscuits, so let's all have a nice cup
of tea or coffee! ;-)

Chocolate biscuits by any chance, or maybe Digestives as if you remeber
CB,DOS etc you must recall a drink is too wet without one.

As well as "It's Frothy Man!", traffic in Cornmarket and Queen Street,
USAF Brize Norton and the Daleks the first time around.

Oh that traffic, I had to turn right from Cornmarket into Queen on my very
first driving lesson. I think my instructor thought that if I completed that
successfully before realising how hard it was, my confidence would be
boosted - it worked.

Surely that's Rich Tea, not Digestives?

Although in general, a tea is certainly too wet without any of them.

I'm now thinking of Lemon Thins, if that's their proper name ?

Oh God! Now I'm thinking about the range we had whilst living in
Carterton, dim winter afternoons and the light from the glow of the fire
rippling on the walls and ceiling. Coats for goalposts.....

Time for a cuppa char, methinks!

I don't understand. I always thought a Hematite was a gay Hittite.

Looks like I'm not young enough to know everything.
